1500 Teachers sacked by Governor Adeleke protest as they beg for mercy

On Monday in Osogbo, some teachers in Adegboyega Oyetola’s immediate administration in Osun State staged a peaceful protest to ask Governor Ademola Adeleke to reconsider his decision to disengage them.

It should be recalled that Adeleke fired approximately 1,500 teachers who were hired by the previous administration between September and October 2022 and asked the governor not to fire them along with other workers hired by Oyetola’s government.

The protesters, who gathered in the Olaiya area, held placards with a variety of inscriptions and also pleaded with relevant state stakeholders to get involved.
Olufemi Adedeji pleaded with Adeleke to return the protesters to their duty posts while speaking on their behalf. Adedeji said that Adeleke’s recruitment followed proper procedures.

He stated, “I am one of the 1,500 newly hired teachers in Osun for both primary and secondary schools.” On September 30, 2022, I received an appointment letter, and the recruitment process began in 2020.

“As soon as we received our appointment letters, we all went to our primary assignments.

“We have been obedient, patriotic citizens of this state, and upon our return, teachers, students, and the Parents and Teachers Association leadership gladly welcomed us.

“Until the new government, led by Governor Ademola Adeleke, ordered a review of our appointment, we worked for about four months without being compensated for our efforts.

We have tried everything since then to get Mr. Governor’s attention and beg for mercy. However, he has not responded to our inquiries.

“We are appealing to our Governor, as well as all stakeholders and well-intentioned residents of the state, to pleading with him to reevaluate our position and provide us with a favorable response. We are dying quietly.

A response to a text message that was sent to the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, was still anticipated, but calls to him made it impossible to reach him for comment.
