The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expelled former Minister of Interior and ex-Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, over alleged anti-party activities.
The expulsion was confirmed in a letter issued by the party’s leadership on Wednesday, citing violations of Article 21 of the APC constitution, which outlines disciplinary actions against members.
The letter, titled “Allegations of Anti-Party Activities – Conveyance of State Exco Decision to You,” stated:
“At the end of the investigation, the State Executive Committee (SEC) considered the report of the Disciplinary Committee. Having carefully reviewed the findings and recommendations, the SEC resolved to approve your immediate expulsion from the APC.
“The decision was predicated on clear evidence of your actions, which undermined the unity and integrity of the party. As a result, you are no longer a member of the APC and must refrain from holding yourself out as one or acting on behalf of the party in any capacity.”
This development comes just days after the Omoluabi Progressives, a political group led by Aregbesola, announced its decision to sever ties with the APC.
In a statement released on Sunday, the group’s Organising and Publicity Secretary, Oluwaseun Abosede, revealed that stakeholders had reached a consensus to leave the APC due to internal party divisions, suspensions of key members, and the alleged marginalization of Aregbesola’s faction.
Representatives from the group’s 332 wards across Osun State endorsed the resolution, blaming the party’s handling of internal crises for its declining influence in the state.
During the meeting, Aregbesola applauded members for their commitment to integrity and good governance, urging them to stay focused on the group’s vision.
“With this decision, we are charting a new course to restore good governance and strengthen our political influence in Osun State,” Aregbesola stated.
His expulsion marks a significant rift within the APC, particularly in Osun State, where he once held considerable political influence.
