The Federal University of Lokoja has closed indefinitely after seven students and a bus driver died in a terrible road crash. The University said the shutdown came after angry students blocked school gates to protest the accident. The crash happened Monday when a large truck carrying wood and palm oil lost control and smashed into a school bus full of students. The bus was crushed, killing everyone inside instantly.

Students say the truck was speeding when it hit their bus. Since the crash, students have held protests, demanding safer roads and better rules to stop such accidents. The university’s leaders said they closed the school after security officials warned tensions were rising. A school notice told students to leave campus by noon on Thursday, February 20, 2025.

The university’s management said they closed the school to “prevent more deaths” and keep peace. They explained that students ignored pleas to stay calm even after the state government tried to help. The shutdown affects all campuses, and classes won’t restart until further notice. The school called the deaths a “painful loss” and urged students to go home quickly for their safety.
