The Oyo State Government has officially handed over 90 hectares of land to the Federal Government for the construction of the proposed Moniya Inland Dry Port in Ibadan. The land, located along the Ibadan–Oyo road in Akinyele Local Government Area, was presented by the state’s Deputy Governor, Bayo Lawal, to the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, who was represented by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Michael Olufemi.
Lawal described the project as a major step toward boosting the state’s economy. He said the dry port would promote industrialization, improve infrastructure, and strengthen the agricultural value chain. He also noted that the project would help decongest Lagos ports and make goods clearing easier.
The deputy governor called on all stakeholders to support the successful completion of the project, emphasizing that it would bring significant development to the state and the region.
In his remarks, Oyetola praised Governor Seyi Makinde for supporting the initiative, describing it as a patriotic move that aligns with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He said the project would bring shipping services closer to importers and exporters, boost industrial and agricultural growth across the South-West, and create new jobs.
Also speaking, the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Akutar Ukiyama, represented by the Director of Inland Transport Service, Ahmodu Yahyah, commended Makinde’s leadership. He explained that the project would increase revenue for the state, stimulate industrial growth, and provide seamless cargo and logistics operations once completed.
