The family of the late Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has renewed its call for a transparent and independent investigation into his death.

In a statement signed by the head of the family, Omolayo Aloba, and Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, the family also directed the late singer’s partner, Wunmi Adebanjo, to stop using the Aloba surname until the completion of a court-ordered DNA test. The family further announced the appointment of new legal representatives to handle all matters related to Mohbad’s estate and the ongoing DNA case.

According to the statement, the Aloba family remains steadfast in its demand for justice, stressing that only a thorough and independent investigation can reveal the truth behind the singer’s death. They also named three administrators to oversee Mohbad’s assets, royalties, and intellectual property while promising to announce a new burial date after all legal matters are resolved.

However, Wunmi’s lawyer, Kabir Akingbolu, dismissed the family’s directive as “illegal and sentimental,” arguing that no one has the legal right to stop her from using her late husband’s surname. He accused the Aloba family of deliberately delaying the DNA process, claiming they had failed to appear for multiple court-ordered tests.

Akingbolu insisted that his client has nothing to fear and remains ready to proceed with the DNA test at any time. The development marks the latest chapter in the ongoing dispute between Mohbad’s family and his widow over the paternity of their son and control of the late artist’s estate. Mohbad died on September 12, 2023, at age 27, under circumstances that continue to spark controversy.
