The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, for allegedly planning and carrying out the rape of another female student. The command revealed the arrest in a statement released on Monday by its spokesperson, Olayinka Ayanlade.
According to the police, the incident began when the 20-year-old victim visited the home of her longtime friend and schoolmate, Queen Sodo, who had invited her over. When she arrived, she was reportedly offered a drink that was later confirmed to have been laced with drugs, causing her to lose consciousness. Police said Sodo then called in a male accomplice while she kept watch.
Ayanlade explained that a neighbour who heard strange sounds from the room intervened and helped rescue the victim. She was taken to a hospital for treatment, while the suspects were arrested shortly after. Both students have allegedly confessed to the crime and explained the roles they played.
The police spokesperson added that investigators recovered key evidence from the scene, including the drug-laced drink, which will undergo toxicology tests. He said the suspects remain in custody and will be transferred to the Gender Desk Office in Akure for further investigation and prosecution.
Ayanlade advised parents to warn their children to be careful in their friendships and interactions. He also stressed that the command will continue to pursue and prosecute offenders, noting that similar arrests have been made recently, including the case of a Lagos taxi driver linked to multiple assaults on female passengers.
