Josiah Godwin, a 20-year-old apprentice, was taken into custody by the Ondo State Police Command. He is accused of hacking his master, Saviour Joseph, to death at the Imafon community in the state’s Akure South Local Government Area.

Reports have it that the suspect dumped the victim’s body in a well at a place where they were working after killing him.
According to a source, the trouble began when the suspect attacked the deceased, an asbestos operator, in retaliation for smashing the suspect’s phone on the floor during a dispute.

Mr. Odey Ogbaji, the deceased’s older brother, described the incident, stating that the 27-year-old’s body was discovered four days ago in a well at the location where he and his apprentice (the suspect) went to work.

Last Tuesday, my brother called me in the morning and we spoke,” he stated. However, on Wednesday, I attempted to call his number but was unsuccessful. Until Saturday, when another younger brother of mine called to inform me of his unsuccessful attempts to reach him, I thought he had a dead battery.

“The apprentice of the deceased was contacted afterward. When they arrived at the boy, they inquired about his master’s whereabouts, to which he replied that his boss had woken him up at night, taken his phone, smashed it on the floor, started beating him, and then asked him to go back to sleep.

He stated that the next day he made the decision to leave the location. As a result, we inquired as to how he would leave the workplace in the morning without seeing his boss. He stated that he believed his master used a restroom when he left.

“There was no scratch on the phone when we checked it, which he said was broken.”
Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, the state police public relations officer, confirmed the incident and stated that the suspect had been detained.
She stated, “The boy was enraged, killed his boss, threw his body into a well, and threw his body there.” The matter has been referred to the State Criminal Investigative Department, and he will be charged following an investigation.
