There have been differing views as regards the death toll after farmers harvesting rice in Kwashebe village, Zambarmari, Jere local government area of the State were attacked by gunmen on motorbikes.
Rumours also have it that most of the victims were tied up and slit in their throats, with the United Nations putting the death toll at 110 while Governor Babagana Zulum reporting that 43 were killed.
But Abubakar Shekau, leader of the dreaded Islamic sect, in a video, revealed on Tuesday that the group killed 78 farmers.
The group said the killing was carried out after one of its members was arrested by the farmers and handed over to the Army.
Meanwhile, presidential spokesman Garba Shehu said the farmers were to blame as they did not obtain permission before going to the farm.
