The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has detained Omoseyin Oluwadarasimi Esther, a woman from Abuja, for allegedly selling the new Naira notes on social media.

Azuka Ogugua, the ICPC’s spokesperson, released a statement on Wednesday night stating that Esther, who goes by the Twitter handle @SimisolaofLala, was arrested for auctioning the new naira notes on her social media platforms.

According to Ogugua, the suspect was apprehended as a result of the agency’s employees receiving intelligence, who immediately located her and apprehended her.
The ICPC stated that Oluwadarasimi Emma, a “serial entrepreneur” on social media who deals in skincare, fuel sales, visa acquisition, and other businesses, “seized the opportunity of the scarcity of the new Naira notes to openly market the new notes.”

It is thought that she is working with important people in the financial services industry to divert the newly released notes from payment channels and banking halls into a “black market.”

“Oluwadarasimi is currently detained by the ICPC and is assisting the Commission with its findings regarding the criminal trading of the Nigerian naira, which results in scarcity and negative economic outcomes.

“The action is in support of the CBN, ICPC, and EFCC’s collaboration in the implementation of the new cashless policy and naira redesign,” the statement reads.
