The news of Herbert Wigwe, Group Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings Plc, being feared dead has sent shockwaves through the business community. According to reports, Wigwe was reportedly involved in a helicopter crash near the Nevada border in California, United States. Tragically, it is believed that his wife and son were also on board the ill-fated flight.

As of Saturday morning, authorities have been unable to locate any survivors. The Federal Aviation Administration stated that the Eurocopter EC130 helicopter crashed around 10 p.m. local time near Nipton, Calif., an unincorporated community approximately 60 miles south of Las Vegas in eastern San Bernardino County. Details regarding the helicopter’s departure point and destination remain unclear.

Efforts to obtain comments from Access Holdings regarding the incident have been unsuccessful, with no response from the media team or Head of Media Relations, Kunle Aderinokun. However, the Rivers State Government has confirmed the tragic news, as Wigwe hailed from Rivers State.

Joseph Johnson, the state Commissioner for Information and Communications, expressed his shock and described the incident as a significant loss. “His (Wigwe’s) death is confirmed. It is a big loss to every sector. And not just himself, with his wife and son. It is very painful,” said Johnson. The state government is expected to issue an official statement later, providing further details on the unfortunate event.
