Prominent Arsenal striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who is in blazing goal scoring form wore a black panther mask after he scored the decisive goal that gave Arsenal a qualifying chance in the Europa league yesterday. In an interview, the striker said wearing a Black Panther mask after scoring a Europa League goal for Arsenal was a tribute to Gabon.
The striker claimed a brace and created another goal for Ainsley Maitland-Niles as Arsenal beat Rennes 3-0 to progress 4-3 on aggregate on Thursday.
Aubameyang is well known in Germany for several jubilations as he has previously celebrated goals with Batman and Spider-Man masks. His new found celebration was that of the Black Panther which he said was a tribute to Gaboon.
He disclosed that the Gabonese team were fondly referred to as the “Panthers” and also he needed to create a niche for himself, something that represents him.
The second leg was a bad-tempered affair with four yellow cards shown to each side by referee Andris Treimanis.
Aubameyang admitted that he missed two chances to wrap up the game. It would have been a different story entirely had Rennes pulled on back in regular time.
