President Bouteflika’s aim to run for a fifth term in office has met with massive protests by the good people of Algeria for nearly a month. But now the 20 year long serving president has allegedly dropped his bid.
In a recent statement by President AbdelAziz Bouteflika, he was quoted to saying, “there was never any question of it for me. Given my state of health and age, my last duty towards the Algerian people was always contributing to the foundation of a new Republic.”
His statement sounded like he has given in to the protests and seems ready to step down which signifies some kind of victory for those who have taken to the streets to defiantly protest against his proposed administration.
President Bouteflika has gone a step further to announce the postponement of the April 18 presidential elections with no new date for the election set.
With the recent announcement, citizens are still very unsure about the steps taken by the president who has postponed the presidential election indefinitely.
