Army Issues Stern Warning to Soldiers: Say No to Substance Abuse

The Nigerian Army has urged frontline soldiers to abstain from excessive use of psychoactive substances.

At the theaters of operations, the service also issued a warning against indiscipline or cowardice.

Major General Waidi Shaibu, General Officer Commanding 7 Divisional and Commander Sector 1 Operation Hadin Kai, made the disclosure while on an operational visit to Gwoza to evaluate the combat readiness of frontline troops.

Shaibu urged troops to remain persistent and respond decisively to Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Africa Province terrorists in their Areas of Operations in a Monday post on the official Facebook page of the Nigerian Army.

“The GOC admonished the troops to remain courageous, disciplined, and professional in routing the remnants of the BHTs and ISWAP terrorists, urging them to eschew all acts inimical to the actualisation of their operational mandate,” was one portion of the statement.

“He cautioned the soldiers that demonstrations of indiscipline or weakness wouldn’t be supported, encouraging them to stop from substance misuse and be fought with their compensation. He urged troops to maintain an offensive posture and instructed them to remain alert at all times, while also stressing that the ongoing counterterrorism campaign was not finished.
