ARMY OFFICER AND HIS GANG ARRESTED FOR ALLEGED KIDNAPPING IN ANAMBRA

One soldier and two others were yesterday arrested by the Anambra State Police Command for alleged kidnapping and impersonation.

The soldier was with his other gang members named Ojiegbe Obinna, Obasi Peter, Benjamin Nicholas and they were all in Military Vests when they were arrested.

According to the state command PPRO, SP Haruna Mohammed in a press statement, released on the 24th of May at about 11:am. The statement disclosed that there was a distress call along Isuofia road in Aguata LGA of the State that three persons in Military uniforms abducted around Ekwulobia Roundabout one Uchenna Ezeonu of Omeke village Ekwulobia and whisked him away to unknown destination.

He said, due to prompt follow-up, the Police Operatives attached to operation Puff Adder in conjunction with Joint Patrol teams rushed to the scene and cordoned off the entire area in search of the hoodlums along the bush path by Uyo- Eke market road Aguata.

Consequently, the three suspects in military attires who abducted the victim were rounded up and arrested inside the bush.

Meanwhile, the victim was rescued unhurt. Haruna disclosed that “Preliminary investigation revealed that one of the suspects L/Cpl Ojiegbe Obinna serves with the Nigerian Army and deployed to 101 Special Forces Battalion, Maiduguri, Borno State.
And he was subsequently handed over to Onitsha Military Cantonment for discreet investigation while the remaining two suspects in Military vest were discovered to be fake soldiers with their accomplice.

The case is currently under investigation in order to ascertain their motive after which they would be charged to court.
