Arsenal keep title race alive with 2-0 win over Newcastle

Arsenal kept their hopes for the Premier League title alive with a 2-0 victory against Newcastle on Sunday.

Martin Odegaard’s long-range goal and Fabian Schar’s own goal were enough for the Gunners to close the gap to just one point behind leaders Manchester City.

Although City have a game in hand, Arsenal are determined to fight for their first league title in 19 years.

On the other hand, Newcastle suffered their second home defeat of the season, slowing their pursuit of Champions League football for next season.

The match started with Newcastle’s Jacob Murphy hitting the post in the third minute. They thought they had a penalty, but VAR determined that the ball had hit Jakub Kiwior’s thigh first.

Arsenal took advantage of their luck and scored the first goal with their first shot on target.

Odegaard’s precise low shot beat Nick Pope’s left hand. Pope then made a series of impressive saves to keep the Magpies in the game.

Both sides hit the woodwork in the second half, but Arsenal sealed the win with Schar’s own goal, which came after a brilliant run from Gabriel Martinelli.

Arsenal had an eight-point lead a month ago but have stumbled in recent games. However, they showed their improvement under Mikel Arteta and their determination to fight for the title.

Newcastle still have a chance to qualify for the Champions League, but they will need to win at least six points from their final four games.
