Riccardo Calafiori has officially signed with Arsenal after extended negotiations with Bologna. The Gunners have now secured the services of the versatile defender for an initial fee of £34 million, with an additional £4 million in potential add-ons.

Following his medical in London, Calafiori has joined his new teammates on their pre-season tour in America. Mikel Arteta identified the 22-year-old, who shone for Italy at Euro 2024, as his top defensive target. Calafiori impressed during the group stage in Germany and was a key player for Bologna last season, helping them qualify for the Champions League.

His standout performances attracted interest from several top clubs, including Juventus and Chelsea, who eventually opted for Renato Veiga from Basel. Real Madrid was also rumored to be interested, but Calafiori had his heart set on joining Arsenal. The transfer discussions between Arsenal and Bologna took place over the past month, with Basel also involved due to a significant 50% sell-on clause from Calafiori’s transfer to Bologna in August 2023.
