ASUU SET TO END STRIKE NEXT WEDNESDAY AFTER FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AGREE TO PAY ACADEMIC ALLOWANCES

The long awaited day is fast approaching as there are indications that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) may call of its strike next Wednesday, as the federal government has agreed to pay N30 billon earned academic allowance.

Part of the conclusion reached after the meeting on Thursday night between officials of the government and the union leaders, was that their earned allowance be settled.

According to Reports, the Minister of Education will follow up with the minister of finance, Budget and National planning on its earlier memo to president Buhari on sources of alternative funding for revitalization to facilitate the process of the funding of the university system. Meeting with the agreement of the reactivating the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) of 2013.

Meanwhile, the meeting was in conclusive as the federal government has appealed to the union members to enroll on the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) in view of the presidential directive and thereafter migrate to the University Transpancy Accountability System (UTAS), whenever certified digitally efficient and effective with accompanying security coverage. But the union maintained that UTAS is better and the university lecturers should be exempted from the IPPIS payment system.

With this in view, it was agreed that the meeting will be reconvene next Wednesday, with the aim of calling of the strike.
