Former Vice President and 2023 Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has addressed speculations concerning his secondary school certificate.
In response to allegations of forgery raised by members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Atiku’s clarification came through one of his media aides, Chief Dele Momodu, in a post on his X (formerly known as Twitter) account on Tuesday.
The controversy centered around a discrepancy in Atiku’s secondary school certificate, particularly the name “Sadiq Abubakar” appearing on his WAEC certificate in contrast to his other credentials. To counter these allegations, Momodu conveyed the accusations to the former vice president, who promptly provided a comprehensive response.
Atiku explained, “Yes, I used Sadiq Abubakar to sit for my WAEC, and after passing my exams, I went to swear an affidavit to confirm that I am the same person as Atiku Abubakar. I attended ABU as Atiku Abubakar, passed my exams as Atiku Abubakar, and was interviewed as Atiku Abubakar by the Federal Civil Service Commission before being hired into the Customs Service as Atiku Abubakar. So, where is the forgery there?”
In light of this clarification, Atiku’s camp challenged the APC’s social media critics to present their questions to their own leaders for a direct and immediate response.
