In an exclusive interview with Billboard News, the renowned Nigerian singer, Ahmed Ololade, better known as Asake, has unveiled his ultimate musical aspiration: collaborating with none other than American rap icon Kanye West.
Asake, the artist behind the hit track ‘Omo Ope,’ shared his perspective on artistic partnerships, emphasizing the importance of a deep connection both personally and musically. He expressed, “For me, I need to like the person before I can make music with you. I need to be comfortable with you, not just because of the music alone. I like real energy. If you like me beyond the music, it’s good. But I need to connect with your music first; there must be synergy. I have been saying this, maybe God will make it happen. I would love to work with Kanye West.”
Reflecting on the explosive global rise of the afrobeats genre, Asake drew an analogy, saying, “It’s like having a baby and watching your baby grow. You feel proud when something you’re part of is flourishing. In a few years, afrobeats will be even bigger.”
This revelation comes on the heels of Asake’s remarkable achievement at the 16th Headies awards, where he clinched two prestigious accolades, including the coveted Next Rated category and Album of the Year.
