Yesterday, presidential and National Assembly elections in Borno State’s Gwoza Council were disrupted by suspected Boko Haram insurgents.
Mohammed Shehu Timta, the Emir, confirmed the incident in Gwoza by stating: While casting their votes for national leaders, the insurgents struck the township with two mortar bombs, injuring five people.
He stated that the injured were evacuated and transported to Maiduguri for treatment.
He stated the following regarding the attack on the Cameroonian border community: While voters waited in line for accreditation before voting, the terrorists arrived at 8:30 a.m., and when the incident occurred, many voters fled in various directions to safety.
Because there was no guarantee of their safety during the elections in the border community, he lamented that many voters refused to return.
He stated, “We are attempting to persuade them to return and cast their votes.”
He claimed that the terrorists had been reinforced and driven into the Mandara Hills by the military and other security forces.
The community is home to Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, who is running for reelection in the Borno South Senatorial District on behalf of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
