Bola Ahmed Tinubu pledges to implement a living wage for Nigerian workers


President-Elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu has promised to introduce a living wage for Nigerian workers. In a message of solidarity marking International Workers’ Day, he affirmed that his government would go the extra mile to implement policies aimed at empowering Nigerian workers.

Tinubu declared that his administration would be a dependable partner and co-collaborator in the struggle for social and economic justice for all Nigerians, including workers.

He said, “Your battle will be my battle because I will always fight for you. My plans for better welfare and working conditions are clearly stated in my Renewed Hope Agenda for A Better Nigeria. It is a covenant that arises from my convictions and one that I am ready to fulfill.”

Tinubu also pointed out that there is a common battle to be fought against poverty, ignorance, disease, disunity, ethnic and religious hatred, and all the negative forces that threaten the stability and prosperity of Nigeria.

From May 29th, when he will begin his leadership in Nigeria, Tinubu assured workers that they will receive more than a minimum wage, as they will be provided with a living wage to have a decent life and care for their families.

However, Tinubu demanded a better understanding and cooperation from all parties in the face of the tough and difficult decisions that may be taken during his tenure.

He also acknowledged the patriotic role played by workers over the years and extended his hands of friendship to Nigerian workers through the two central Labour unions – Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress.
