The British Council in Nigeria has announced an increment in the fees for the academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) examinations, marking the second hike in fees this year.

Last month witnessed a 29 percent increase from the previous fee of N107,500. The new fees are as follows: IELTS on computer academic and general training modules at N139,000, IELTS on paper academic and general training modules at N134,000, UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) at N149,000, Life Skills at N130,000, and one skill retake (O.S.R) at N87,570.

In a recent update on its website, the council stated that the fees have been reviewed, resulting in adjustments. The revised fees are as follows: IELTS on computer academic and general training modules at N266,000, IELTS on paper academic and general training modules at N256,500, UKVI at N285,500, and Life Skills at N249,000.

“The above fees will be subject to review based on the prevailing market dynamics,” stated the council.

Explaining the rationale behind the fee adjustments, the council attributed it to evolving market dynamics and increased costs in exam delivery. These updated prices will take effect from March 1.

This move follows a previous increase in September 2023 when the IELTS cost rose from approximately N90,000 to N107,500. The council emphasized that these adjustments are necessary to uphold the high standards of testing experience.
