Buhari’s major rival in the forthcoming presidential election, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has described the action of president Buhari as an act of desperation as the president quickly replaced the Chief Justice of Niheria, Onnoghen Walter with Justice Ibrahim Tanko, ahead of the election tribunals today.

The president swore in Hon. Tanko Ibrahim Muhammad at the state house on Friday as the new Ag. Chief Judge of Nigeria.

Ibrahim Muhammad hails from Giade, a local government area in Bauchi State, Northern Nigeria. He attended Government Secondary School, Azare where he obtained the West Africa School Certificate in 1973 before he later proceeded to Ahmadu Bello University where he received a bachelor’s degree in Law in 1980. He later obtained a Master and Doctorate (Ph. D) degree from the same university in 1984 and 1998 respectively.

The news of the appointment of Hon. Ibrahim Tanko as the new CJN came in shortly after Justice Walter Onnoghen announced that he has not stepped down from his position as the Chief Justice of Nigeria.

Atiku Abubakar has seized the opportunity to call for unity amongst the judiciary asking them not to let the Buhari administration divide them. He didn’t forget to trumpet the fact that the judiciary is the last hope of the common man.

He has also called out to the Nigerian electorate to save the country from dictatorship and vote out Buhari in the upcoming elections. He said his administration will restore democracy to the country.
