In light of Arsenal’s interest in the midfielder, Moises Caicedo has pleaded with Brighton to accept a transfer fee that sets a club record.
A £60 million ($74 million) offer for the Ecuadorian international has reportedly been turned down by the Premier League leader.
Caicedo tweeted on Friday, “I am proud to be able to bring in a record transfer fee for Brighton that would allow them to reinvest and help the club continue to be successful.”
“I hope they can understand why I want to take advantage of this magnificent opportunity because the fans have taken me into their hearts and they will always be in mine,” I said.
Roberto De Zerbi, manager of Brighton, is determined to keep the 21-year-old at least until the season’s end.
He is a decent man. He only cares about Brighton. De Zerbi told reporters on Friday, “I hope he can stay with us until the end of the season because, in my opinion, it’s the best solution for him and for us.”
“I shared my opinion with him when I spoke with him on Wednesday. I think changing during a season is always hard. It is essential for our purposes for him to remain with us for an additional four months.
During the current January transfer window, Brighton has already sold Belgium forward Leandro Trossard to Arsenal for £27 million.
Caicedo’s Brighton contract runs until 2025. He has also been linked to a reunion with Chelsea coach Graham Potter.
He is at ease. He is a decent man. De Zerbi added, “I spoke with him like a father, not like a coach.”
I can understand when a player has the option to switch teams and join a large team.
“I comprehend. My job is to teach him how to play, but I also give him advice for his career and life.
In the fourth round of the FA Cup, Brighton will host Liverpool on Sunday.
