Cardiff’s new boy Emiliano Sala, which was recently signed by Cardiff on Saturday from French club Nantes for a reported 17 million euro fee, has been declared missing as he was last seen flying to Cardiff aboard a small plane that disappeared from radars around 20 kilometres (12 miles) north of the island of Guernsey.
A statement from the Guernsey police which is on a British island just off the coast of France reported that lifeboats and helicopters have searched thoroughly for several hours for the plane with no luck. The plane had Sala and one other person on board. The search was stopped at around 2am due to low visibility and worsening sea conditions.
28 year old Sala has been at Nantes since 2016 and has 12 league goals to his name this season. He signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with Premier league side, Cardiff, which is subject to receiving international clearance. He is Cardiff city’s record signing.
After he penned his contract on Saturday at Cardiff, he said in a statement: “I’m very happy to be here. It gives me great pleasure and I can’t wait to start training, meet my new team-mates and get down to work. This dream is waiting to be achieved.
