In an effort to improve cadet training, the Minister of Defense, Maj.-Gen. Bashir Magashi (Rtd), unveiled a number of projects at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in Kaduna on Friday.
Roads named after war heroes, the NDA-NAF Base Link Road, and a new gate named after Magashi were among the newly opened projects.
In addition to inspecting projects for block fence and concrete fence, the defense minister unveiled an adventure obstacle course where cadets demonstrated their skills.
He also witnessed the 70th Regular Course cadets performing a river assault crossing demonstration at the Nigerian Air Force dam.
Magashi stated to journalists following the inauguration that he has consistently had expectations that the Nigerian Armed Forces are performing their constitutional duties to the nation to the best of their ability.
He said that, in addition to launching a number of projects, he was going to the NDA to see where the training and other aspects of soldiering could be improved to ensure a good breed of young officers.
Magashi responded to inquiries regarding the country’s level of security by stating that the North-East and North-West have seen significant improvement, despite the fact that insecurity cannot be completely eradicated.
The minister made the observation that civilized behavior would gradually return to the nation.
At the NDA, he expressed his appreciation for the project named after him and praised the commandant for his vision and innovative training methods.
Prior, the Academy Commandant, Major-General Ibrahim Yusuf disclosed that this would improve the academy’s security architecture.
He stated that they had also opened up opportunities for additional training areas.
The Minister was thanked by him; for their support of the institution, including the Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Defence Staff, and other service chiefs.
