The Federal Executive Council has on Wednesday approved N9.43 billion to complete the country’s digital switchover, as it had previously missed the deadline set for its implementation.

The meeting was chaired over by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed at the end of the meeting, gave the information to journalists while addressing the State House correspondents.

Mohammed noted that the council also approved the cost of N31.8 billion in a Memorandum of Understanding between the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Bankers Committee for the National Theatre, Iganmu Lagos and the ministry.

He also while speaking said that the government regrets not been able to meet the cut off date for the switchover, but assured that with the approval of the memo, the country would strive to make the switchover from analogue to digital.

He furthermore said that the country’s switchover would be the biggest in Africa after it’s completion.

The approval of these two memos is capable of creating one million jobs in the next three years.
