Former Kogi West Senator and 2023 governorship candidate, Dino Melaye, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the party’s failure to offer credible leadership and meaningful governance. Melaye made the announcement in a resignation letter dated July 4, 2025, which he shared publicly on his official X account on Thursday.
In the letter addressed to the PDP chairman of Ward 1, Aiyetoro Gbede in Kogi State, Melaye said his resignation takes immediate effect and marks a complete withdrawal from all party activities. He accused the PDP of lacking the capacity to rescue Nigeria from deep-rooted political decay. “This decision has become imperative due to the lack of potency and capacity by the party to deliver the Nigerian people from the prevailing political cankerworms,” he wrote.
Melaye explained that his decision came after careful reflection on the party’s direction and state. “I can no longer in good conscience participate in the activities of the party or lend my support to her agenda,” he added, making it clear that his departure was both political and personal.
He requested that his resignation be treated as a total withdrawal from the PDP at all levels. The former senator emphasized that he is stepping away not just from active involvement, but from all affiliations with the party’s structure and operations.
In closing, Melaye expressed appreciation for the time he spent as a PDP member and for the platform it provided him in the past. “Thank you for the opportunity to serve under the platform during my period of membership,” the letter concluded.
