Inter Milan striker Edin Dzeko has officially joined Turkish giants Fenerbahce, signing a two-year contract, as announced by the club on Thursday. The 37-year-old forward, who recently experienced defeat in the Champions League final against Manchester City in Istanbul, will earn 4.2 million euros ($4.6 million) per season with his new team.
Dzeko showcased his goal-scoring prowess last season, finding the back of the net 14 times across various competitions for Inter. However, his contract with the Serie A side, which he joined from Roma in 2021, had expired. Prior to his stints in Italy, the Bosnian international had successful spells at Manchester City and Wolfsburg, winning titles in the Premier League and Bundesliga respectively.
With over 300 club goals to his name, Dzeko holds the record for the most international goals for Bosnia and Herzegovina, having scored 64 times in 129 appearances for his national team. Fenerbahce, who finished as runners-up to their arch-rivals Galatasaray in the Super Lig last season, have been striving to reclaim the Turkish top-flight title, which they last won in 2014. Their recent triumph in the Turkish Cup marked their first major trophy in nine years.
Dzeko’s arrival at Fenerbahce will help fill the void left by Enner Valencia, the Ecuadorian striker who was the top scorer in the Super Lig last season with 29 goals. Valencia has departed for Internacional in Brazil, making way for Dzeko to make an impact in the Turkish league.
