EFCC ARRAIGNS FORMER SGF BABACHIR LAWAL

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday, arraigned the former secretary to the government of the federation, SGF, Babachir Lawal before a Federal High court in Abuja over his use of a company said to be owned by him to remove what he had described as ‘invasive grass” which cost well over N272 million.

It is worthy to recall that since Mr Lawal was removed from office, the federal government on the 30th of January, he has been seriously accused on matters related to fraud. After a panel set up by Prof Yemi Osinbajo submitted its report,President Muhammad Buhari suspended Mr Lawal on October 2017 over fraud allegations.

Meanwhile, at his arraignment, the EFCC pressed a 10-count charge against Mr Lawal bordering on alleged conspiracy and fraudulent acquisition of property. However, Lawal pleaded not guilty to the 10 count charges.
