EFCC ARRESTS ATIKU’S LAWYER FOR MONEY LAUNDERING

Uyiekpen Giwa-Osagie has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. Uyiekpen is the lawyer of the Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar. He was picked up by the EFCC operatives late on Monday for allegedly laundering $2m. He was implicated by a bureau de change operator who identified him as the owner of the money.

Rumours have it that the EFCC operatives suspected that the $2m might had been budgeted for vote-buying or something set apart to bribe electoral officials.

The Acting spokesman for the EFCC, Tony Orilade, was rather mute on the detention of the lawyer after he had earlier promised to find out about the arrest from the relevant department in the commission.

The former deputy spokesman of the All Progressives Congress, Timi Frank, has come out openly to describe the arrest as a witch-hunt by the APC. He said further that he believes that the EFCC are only doing the bidding of President Buhari and that of the APC.
