The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has heightened security at its Lagos office in anticipation of a planned protest. EFCC had previously warned about various groups intending to demonstrate against its operations.
On Thursday, Dele Oyewale, Head of Media and Publicity for the EFCC, revealed that a former governor and two ex-ministers are allegedly behind the orchestrated protests.
A user on X.com, identified as #PidomNigeria, shared a letter dated July 4, 2024, from the group Concerned Nigeria Youths to EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede. The protesters’ demands include respecting fundamental human rights, halting indiscriminate arrests and nighttime invasions of homes and businesses, ending the stereotyping of young Nigerians, and conducting more professional and civil operations.
The user emphasized that the protest is intended to be a peaceful call for EFCC reform. They also warned that anyone attempting to politicize the protest with slogans like “Tinubu must go” or “End APC” would be handed over to the police by fellow demonstrators.
