Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has authorized a work-from-home policy for civil servants to help ease the economic challenges facing the state’s workforce.
This decision follows the recent fuel price increase from N617 to N897, as directed by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd. (NNPCL), which has led to a sharp rise in the cost of goods and transportation, affecting consumer purchasing power.
In a statement by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, the new policy allows civil servants on levels 01-07 to work remotely three days per week, while those on levels 08-12 will work from home for two days. Officers on levels 13-17 will have one remote workday weekly. However, essential workers such as teachers, healthcare professionals, and security personnel are exempt from this arrangement.
This work-from-home initiative will begin on Monday, September 9, 2024, and will last for two months, with a review to follow based on current conditions. Each government agency has been tasked with creating a flexible schedule to ensure continued service delivery. Other palliative measures, such as the monthly wage support for workers and pensioners, as well as free transportation services for staff and students, remain unaffected by the new policy.
