Father’s Betrayal: Ogun man arrested for selling his own son to multiple buyers for N1.25m

Daniel Chigozie was taken into custody by members of the Western Nigeria Security Network—commonly referred to as Amotekun Corps—for allegedly selling his son to three distinct buyers in Ogun State.

According to David Akinremi, the state’s Commandant of the Corps, the Corps learned that Daniel Chinonye Darlington, Chigozie’s nine-month-old son, had been sold to three different buyers in the Sango, Meiran, and Apapa areas of Lagos.

Between August 2022 and February 2023, he was said to have sold the child to unknown buyers for N150,000, N400,000, and N700,000.
The crime was committed by Chigozie, who lives in Abela, Sango-Ota, in the state’s Ado-Odo Local Government Area.

Akinremi stated, “The suspect in his statement confessed to the crime, and he is being processed to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for a follow-up investigation to recover the child and prosecution.” Akinremi was referring to the suspect’s statement.

Akinremi went on to say that the corps’ findings showed that Chigozie had come up with a way to retrieve the son from each buyer after each sale until he sold him to Dr. Nosa in Apapa.
