FEDERAL GOVERNMENT GIVES FRESH UPDATE ON FLIGHT RESUMPTION DATE

The Federal Government has given a fresh update concerning flight resumption date and Interstate movement. The Federal Government claim that aviation authorities are the ones to determine the resumption date of domestic flights in the country.

This information was disclosed by the National Coordinator of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Sani Aliyu, during a briefing in Abuja, today.

Recall that on June 1, 2020, the Federal Government requested that the aviation industry should start developing protocols to allow for domestic flights to resume probably on June 21st, 2020.

However, Sani Aliyu claimed that the Presidential Task Force are yet to receive a response from the aviation sector on their preparedness to restart commercial flight operations in the country.

Sani Aliyu claimed that the aviation industry should let them know if they are ready to start operations from the 21st of June, 2020, and he further stated that he didn’t say that the skies would be opened from June 21st, 2020.

Sani Aliyu further stated that once the aviation industry is ready to operate on June 21, that is when the issue of interstate restrictions and curfew would be addressed as well.

According to Sani Aliyu, he stated that, “If they come back to us by the 21st of June and they say, ‘we are ready’, we will open the skies for domestic travellers and that’s when we will address the issue of interstate restrictions and curfew but at the moment, there is no plan right now to say, 21st of June, here we go.”
