The Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, has taken decisive action by suspending Dana Airline operations amidst concerns over safety and financial stability.
The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, acting under the ministry’s directive, announced the suspension pending a thorough audit of the airline’s operations.
In a statement titled ‘Immediate Suspension of Dana Airline Pending Safety and Financial Health Audit,’ signed by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Emmanuel Meribole, the decision was made in response to recent incidents, including an aircraft skidding off the runway at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
The aircraft, registered as 5N BKI, experienced the incident while attempting to land after flying from Abuja to Lagos. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.
The directive to suspend Dana Airline’s fleet until the completion of the audit underscores the Ministry’s commitment to prioritizing the safety and well-being of citizens and travelers.
Dr. Meribole emphasized the need for a comprehensive audit covering safety protocols, maintenance procedures, and financial health to ensure full compliance with aviation regulations.
