The Federal Government has immediately suspended, indefinitely, the operations of
the popular social networking service, Twitter, in Nigeria.
This was relayed by Lai Muhammed, the Minister of Information and Culture. He announced the suspension in a statement which was signed by his Special Assistant, Segun Aseyemi.
The main reason for this step according to the minister is the persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence.
The Federal Government has further directed the National Broadcasting Commission to immediately commence the
process of licensing all OTT and social media operations in the country.
