FG allocates N6bn for 3rd Mainland Bridge maintenance and N17bn for Enugu-Onitsha road rehabilitation

Yesterday, the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos received approval for surface maintenance from the Federal Executive Council (FEC) for N6.28 billion.

The FEC also approved a N17.5 billion modification to the contract for the old Enugu-Onitsha road, whose current value is N48.99 billion.

The approvals were granted during the weekly council meeting that took place in the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa in Abuja and was presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. At the conclusion of the meeting, Prince Ademola Adegoroye, the Minister of State for Transportation, informed State House correspondents that the contract sum for the installation of baggage scanners in railway stations all over the country was N495 million.

He said that the devices were needed to make the country’s railway facilities safer for people’s lives and property.

He stated,  “I presented on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Transportation two memos today, one of which related to the installation of scanners at all national railway stations.

You will all concur with me that such equipment must be installed at our railway stations for the sake of protecting lives and property. We are attempting to implement numerous railway-related initiatives since the beginning of the railway revolution.

“We don’t want people to come and damage everything the government has been trying to put in place in that sector,” the spokesperson stated.
