Fire guts building apartment in Ooni of Ife’s palace

Late on Friday, a building apartment inside the palace of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, was gutted by fire.

The incident, which occurred around 11:30 p.m., was said to have been triggered by a power surge that made electrical appliances explode.

However, the fire was quickly contained and did not spread to other sections of the palace.
The Ooni’s spokesperson, Moses Olafare, confirmed the incident and stated that the inferno only affected a building within the courtyard, and no casualties or injuries were recorded.

The fire was put out by the combined efforts of the State Fire Service Department and that of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ile. No cultural items were lost in the incident.

The cause of the power surge remains unknown, but investigations are ongoing.

The Ooni of Ife expressed his gratitude to the emergency responders for their swift response in containing the fire.
