Manchester United’s resurgence under Ruben Amorim has sparked fresh optimism, with former Red Devils coach Rene Meulensteen tipping the club for a surprise Premier League title challenge. United stunned reigning champions Liverpool at Anfield last weekend, marking their first back-to-back league victories since Amorim’s arrival and their first win at Anfield in nine years.

It’s been a turbulent ride for Amorim at Old Trafford. His debut season ended with United in 15th place, missing out on European football entirely. Determined to rebuild, the Portuguese tactician splashed heavily in the summer transfer window, securing Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha, and Bryan Mbeumo to strengthen his squad. However, early struggles persisted this season, with only two wins in their first six games and an embarrassing Carabao Cup exit to Grimsby Town.

The mood around Old Trafford has shifted dramatically in recent weeks. United’s consecutive victories, including the crucial triumph over Liverpool, have lifted them to ninth place in the table just two points behind third-placed Liverpool. With Arsenal and Manchester City leading the pack, Meulensteen believes United cannot be ruled out if their current momentum continues.

“There will be twists and turns,” Meulensteen said. “If Arsenal lose one or two games, the whole picture changes. If United go on a winning run, the momentum shifts into positive power. They’re only two points off Liverpool — it’s far too early to write them off.”

Club captain Bruno Fernandes echoed similar confidence, defending Amorim’s tactics and urging unity within the squad. “We always believe in the system, win or lose,” he said. “Against Liverpool, we suffered when needed, stayed disciplined, and trusted the plan. That belief is what’s turning things around.”

The Red Devils now look to build on their revival as Amorim’s “positive power” project begins to take shape — and Old Trafford starts to dream again.
