Ayodele Fayose, a former governor of Ekiti State, quit partisan politics and resigned from the People’s Democratic Party on Wednesday.
This comes just hours after the All Progressives Congress defeated his party in the presidential election.
While appearing as a guest on ARISE TV, Fayose announced his resignation and revealed that PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar turned down an offer of one term in office in order to garner the support of the G5 governors.
Atiku lost the G5 governors’ states to Tinubu of the APC, who won three of them, and Obi of the Labour Party, who won two of them.
Fayose stated, “From today, I stay off PDP” when he announced his resignation.
He responded, “Let me put it this way, in party politics,” when asked if that was a resignation. because certain facts exist. I am 62.
Because I must be speaking like a leader in this country, I declare from now on that I will step aside.
“I had warned the PDP about this problem on my Twitter handle even in January or December.” I warned them that danger awaited if this issue is not resolved. Observe it.
His Excellency Atiku Abubakar invited me to a hotel in Lagos. I informed him of four things, including the four requirements they placed on you. First, you were 76 years old last year. The G-5 stated that you are already a candidate and that a child born to you cannot be aborted.
“However, let us go back and tell the Southerners that you will spend four years so that it does not appear that it will be eight to eight years back-to-back for the North because Buhari is leaving and he is representing the North regardless of the party,” the Southerners said.
They instructed his excellency to make his official announcement, not to hand it over to any G-5 member. That he will spend four years in office, when he will be 80 years old; all of the people around him disagree, saying that they cannot say such a thing; however, if he becomes president, he will state it—who does that?
Fayose went on to accuse the party’s National Chairman, Iyiorcha Ayu, of the party’s defeat at the polls.
He said that the party was funding protests against the election’s outcome and urged them to accept defeat.
Atiku was led to the gutters by this Ayu. He was taken to the drains. You can tell when a man is unable to leave. What will he do with his life when he is 80?
Fayose said, “Let me first fault the people I saw here today, that are calling themselves civil society,” in response to a video showing members of a civil society organization protesting the election results in Abuja. They are, in fact, PDP members.
Yusuf from Oyo State was the first person to speak on behalf of the protesters here. He ran in 2019 as a member of the PDP. He is my trustworthy brother. The teenager is also from Oyo State. All of them are PDP members.
These are agents for the PDP. These actions are being taken to demonstrate to Nigerians that we are unhappy.
Numerous protesters have been sponsored by the PDP and provided with financial assistance. Carrying people from somewhere is where they go.
Each of them will occasionally beat themselves if you give them N1,000. The number of protesters at this election, which attracted nearly 22 million people, can be counted. These protesters are counted, he said.
He stated, “The PDP candidate in Lagos to me, they are people doing theatre,” in reference to the election for governor of Lagos State. The business world in Lagos is serious. Lagos presents numerous obstacles. Therefore, I urge everyone in Lagos to return Sanwo-Olu.
