Former Governors Meet President Tinubu at Presidential Villa, Abuja

President Bola Tinubu is currently engaged in a meeting with three former governors, Nyesom Wike of Rivers, Dave Umahi of Ebonyi, and Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The meeting, which commenced at approximately 3:33 pm, faced a brief delay as security personnel sought clearance from their superiors before granting the former governors access to the President’s office, as they had not been previously briefed about the visit.

It is worth noting that both Wike and Umahi had separately visited the State House last Friday to meet with President Tinubu. During his visit, Wike was accompanied by former Delta State governor James Ibori and Oyo State governor Seyi Makinde. On the other hand, Umahi arrived with Senator George Akume, the newly appointed Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

In a statement to journalists on Friday, Wike expressed his purpose for being at the State House, emphasizing his support for President Tinubu. Meanwhile, Akpabio, who is the preferred candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the position of Senate President, and Umahi, who recently concluded his tenure as a governor and is now a Senator-elect, are also part of the meeting.

Although unconfirmed, there are reports suggesting that Wike may be considered for a ministerial position due to his significant role in the February 25 presidential election that led to Tinubu’s ascension to power, despite being a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
