After his team’s surprise 1-0 victory over the three-time African champions in Abuja on Friday in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, Guinea-Bissau head coach Baciro Cande has taken aim at the Super Eagles.

With a 1-0 victory over the hosts and favorites at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, the Wild Dogs pulled off one of the biggest upsets in African football history.

Fans were stunned as they witnessed yet another appalling performance by the Eagles under Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro.

At the press conference following the game, Cande said that his team deserved to win despite the Nigerians’ parade of “big names.”

“They (Eagles) tried to do everything to beat us and created many scoring chances, but we deserved to win,” Cande stated. “This victory is for the Guinea-Bissau people. We respect all the Nigerian players.

We are overjoyed with Friday’s victory, and the boys did an excellent job. The outcome is vital for ourselves and the Guinea-Bissau individuals.”

Cande, be that as it may, conceded the outcome stunned his group.

“We are surprised, but the team worked very hard during training, and they beat Nigeria, a big football nation with good players, today. We are pleased with our victory over Nigeria.

Cande added, “I will keep the team in focus ahead of the return leg and we will see what is the best strategy to adopt for the next game,” when asked about his plans for the double-header’s second game on Monday in Bissau.

Because we have another game next week, I can’t really talk about our strategy in today’s match.
