Former Akwa Ibom State governor, Godswill Akpabio, representing the All Progressive Congress (APC), has been elected as the Senate President of the 10th Assembly. Jibrin Barau, the senator from Kano South, has been elected as the Deputy Senate President.In a closely contested election, Akpabio, the preferred candidate of the APC, secured victory over Senator Abdul’aziz Yari. The announcement of his win came on Tuesday, after receiving 63 votes compared to Yari’s 46 votes.The result was officially declared by the clerk of the National Assembly, Sani Tambuwal, who revealed that a total of 107 senators cast their votes.Akpabio’s nomination was put forward by Ali Ndume from Borno, seconded by Adeola Olamilekan from Ogun.
