GOVERNOR GANDUJE URGED TO APPROVE EXECUTION OF KANO SINGER, YAHAYA AMINU

The Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria (SCSN) has urged Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State to execute the judgement passed on singer, Yahaya Sharif-Aminu by the Upper Sharia Court without delay.

SCSN also commended the judge, Qadi Ali Kani for his courage in charging, trying and convicting Shariff.

The 23-year-old singer was convicted for blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad (S. A. W.).

The council said the Governor must, as a matter of urgency execute the singer by hanging in accordance to the court judgement to serve as a deterrent to others.

SCSN statement was signed by its Secretary General, Nafi’u Baba-Ahmed and made available to reporters on Tuesday, asking Ganduje to ignore human right activities asking for pardon for the culprit.

“The calls by some so-called human rights groups to pardon the culprit should not deter the state government from doing the right thing as this case is purely an Islamic affair and in consonance with the religion, culture and wishes of not only the people of Kano, but the majority population of Nigeria who are Muslims,” the council said.

Furthermore, the SCSN reminded Nigerian’s especially the secular human rights group that the judgement is in line with the Supreme Court judgement in the case of Abubakar Shalla vs State (2007) 12 MJSC at page 52 to 53 paragraph G-B, which says ‘that the position of the Law under Shari’ah is that any sane and adult Muslim, who insults, defames, or utters words or acts which are capable of bringing into disrepute, odium, contempt of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him), such a person has committed a serious crime which is punishable by death.

The group warned Muslims all around the country to be mindful of their utterances.

Recall that a human rights group, Concerned Nigerians Group had written US, President Muhammadu Buhari, and Governor Ganduje over sentencing to death of the Kano-based musician, condemns religious policing in Nigeria.

The group in a letter to Nigerian President, Kano state Governor and the American embassy said, the judgement is repulsive to natural justice, equity and good conscience. The group also condemned the attempt to religiously police the country saying that the country is a secular state.
