On Tuesday, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State stated that the delay in the appointment of the new Alaafin of Oyo and Soun of Ogbomosoland was to ensure due process was followed in their selection to prevent a repeat of past mistakes.Makinde disclosed this while swearing in the new Chief Judge of the state, Justice Iyabo Yerima, in Ibadan. The governor revealed that he had already informed the kingmakers in the two towns to follow an institutional framework for the selection of new traditional rulers. He noted that once due process is followed, things will generally work out more efficiently. He stressed that his administration would rather delay the appointment and follow due process than have a new king removed by the judiciary after years on the throne.Makinde emphasized the need for strong institutions in Nigeria, adding that the appointment of experienced and capable people like Justice Yerima is essential to achieve this goal.He congratulated Yerima on her appointment and pledged to provide her with the necessary support to succeed. The event was held at the Executive Chamber of the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Ibadan and attended by top government officials, including the Deputy Governor, Chief Adebayo Lawal; Secretary to the State Government, Mrs Olubanwo Adeosun; and High Court Judges.Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) Related
