The spokesperson of the Ogun state Police command, Abimbola Oyeyemi has revealed that residents of Ogun state will now face arrest if found not to be wearing face masks in public.

The state is considered as a coronavirus hot spot and a 35-day lockdown ended there last week.

Governor Dapo Abiodun had ordered mandatory mask-wearing as a precaution to stop the spread of coronavirus.

The order took effect on 1 May, but local leaders say people are not complying and the police have confirmed that enforcement will begin this weekend.

Those found guilty will be arrested and quarantined for 14 days and will also do community work.

Ogun state has so far recorded 100 coronavirus cases and is close to the commercial hub of Lagos, another coronavirus hot spot.
