Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has signaled a possible run for Nigeria’s presidency in 2027, saying he believes he has the experience and capability to lead the nation. Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Makinde pointed to his track record in Oyo State as evidence of his leadership strength. “I believe I can lead this nation—no doubts,” he said, with quiet confidence.

However, he noted that nothing is set in stone just yet. “Do the people want it? Is this the direction my party wants? I’m not sure—we still have time,” he added. For now, his priority is rebuilding the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which he says needs internal stability before considering bigger ambitions. “The party must be strong first, that’s the base,” Makinde emphasized.

Reflecting on his political career, Makinde recalled contesting for the Senate back in 2007. Though that bid didn’t pan out, he feels fulfilled with how far he’s come. “Even if it ends here, I’ve left my mark,” he said. He also made it clear he won’t make hasty political moves as every step will be deliberate and well thought out.
