Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has officially reinstated Muhammadu Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano by presenting him with a letter of appointment. Sanusi II was previously deposed in 2019 under controversial circumstances.
Governor Yusuf explained that the removal of Sanusi II was an act of victimization by the former governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. He criticized the 2019 emirate council law implemented by Ganduje, which fragmented the historic Kano Emirate into smaller units.
In his reinstatement speech, Governor Yusuf called on Emir Sanusi II to use his position to promote unity within the emirate and throughout Kano State. He emphasized the need for cohesive leadership to heal past divisions and strengthen the community.
