An High Court in Lokoja, Kogi State, has prohibited the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from violating the fundamental human rights of former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.

The court, presided over by Hon. Justice I.A Jamil, issued a two-hour judgment in suit no HCL/68/M/2020 on Wednesday, granting a definitive order restraining the EFCC from arresting, detaining, or prosecuting Bello without court authorization, building upon an earlier interim injunction.

The ruling stemmed from a lawsuit filed by Bello to defend his fundamental rights against the EFCC’s actions.

Additionally, the court halted any further persecution of the applicant by the respondents. Despite EFCC’s jurisdictional challenge being dismissed by the court, both the applicant’s and defendant’s counsels hailed the judgment as thorough and significant.
